Gregory Campbell has said he recognises the ‘horrendous scale of civilian casualties’ in Gaza and Lebanon while calling for a consensus on dealing with ‘the terrorist threat from those who want to annihilate all Israelis’.

Mr. Campbell was speaking in the British House of Commons on Tuesday.

“We all recognise the horrendous scale of the civilian casualties in the region. Does the Minister agree that the Government need to try and unite international opinion to get the remaining hostages released and deal with the terrorist threat from those who want to annihilate all Israelis?” asked the DUP as MPs discussed the catastrophic situation in Gaza and worsening crisis in Lebanon.

British Minister for Development Anneliese Dodds replied: “The Government have been seeking precisely to work globally and with countries in the region to de-escalate to ensure that civilians are protected.

"The UK Government recognise that Israel has the right to defend itself, but we must see a future where, ultimately, we have a two-state solution.”
