The decision to close on Boxing Day was highly praised by both shoppers and staff when they shut their doors last year, with the chain store deciding to do so again this year.

This extra day off isn’t taken out of employee’s holiday allowance, which means the 22,000 employees will still get paid.

In a post on both Twitter and Instagram, Home Bargains said: “To all our staff: Thank you for all your hard work once again this year.

John Lewis and Lidl to remain closed on Boxing Day

Every year, John Lewis closes all of its branches in order to give their hard-working employees a rest over the festive period.

Numerous branches of Lidl will also remain closed on Boxing Day. This is apart from those inside the M25, which will be open from 10am-7pm.

However, this may vary from place to place so it's worth checking the Lidl store finder to see whether your local branch is open.

Other stores that will be closed on Boxing Day

Marks and Spencer will be opening its bigger stores on Boxing Day, but most of the smaller M&S branches will be closed. Again, it's worth checking the M&S website to see if your local store will be open.
