Derry to be in boxer Connor Coyle's corner as homecoming fight returns after 9 years

Sinn Féin councillor Sandra Duffy is encouraging Derry to get behind Derry boxer Connor Coyle as he prepares to fight in Ireland for the first time in more than nine years.

Colr. Duffy said: “Connor Coyle is a proud Derry man who has represented this city with distinction throughout his career, and it will be fantastic to see him back fighting at home.

“Connor fights out of St Joseph’s Boxing Club in Galliagh, a club with a proud history of developing local talent and giving young people opportunities through sport.

“This promises to be a very special night for Connor, his family, his club and the wider boxing community across Derry.

“I would encourage people to come out, get behind Connor and give him the homecoming support he deserves.

“The event will also be broadcast live on Sky Sports across Ireland, giving boxing fans everywhere the chance to watch a local Derry fighter compete on a major stage.

“I wish Connor every success on August 8. The whole city will be behind him.”
