This was almost a carbon copy of the Slaughtneil scoring onslaught that the Emmet’s visited upon Lavey, Kevin Lynch’s three points better off than the reigning champions on aggregate score by virtue of a last minute major from Liam Hinphey.

From an early stage the similarities were clear, Niall Ferris netting in the 4th minute after Gavan McCormick and Kevin Hinphey had posted early points at Owenbeg.

Deaglan Foley got the first of his three first half points in the 16th minute but by that stage Corey O’Reilly had hammered home the second Lynch’s goal from a slick Kevin Hinphey hand-pass.

Utterly dominant in every sector of the field Lynch’s racked up scores at will, Na Magha dependant on Foley for scores (7) from placed balls, Daryl Connolly their only scorer from open play with a single point 10 minutes into the second half!

Six minutes from half time Corey O’Reilly fired home his second goal for 3-6 to 0-2, the winners adding three points through a Ciaran Herron ‘65’, Liam Óg Hinphey and Conor McElhinney to lead 3-9 to 0-3 at half time.

There was no respite for the city side in the second half, Ferris and McElhinney posting points before Gavan McCormick took a pass from O’Reilly and bulged the net for the fourth goal.

The scores came thick and fast in the third quarter with Conor McElhinney in the 35th and Gavan McCormick in the 37th minutes finding the target, the same players then netting in the 40th and 32nd minutes for 6-16 to 0-5.

In the 51st minute substitute Ciaran Steele took a clever pass from Herron and fired home the seventh goal, the final strike just before the long whistle when Liam Hinphey ran in from the right and rippled the net from an acute angle.

Lynch’s wing back Kevin Hinphey commented after the game, “We prepared for that game the same as any other game, we trained hard and we gave Na Magha the respect they’re due.

“I was chatting to a few of their lads and they were missing a few so it wasn’t really a true reflection on them compared to last year. They had a full team out and it was a tight enough game and there wasn’t much in it at half time if I can remember. Today wasn’t a true reflection of Na Magha and it went away from them with a few lucky goals.”
