Team five increased their lead over the chasing pack in the Desmond Motors Winter League qualifying at Foyle Golf Club when returning another fine score of 90 points in round four for an accumulated total of 262 points.

The team, which consists of Kevin McDermott, Charles McDermott, Martin Moran and Cormac McGeady, stretched their lead to five points as the teams pursue one of the eight places on offer in the final.

In the Ladies section of the Winter League Team 10, Florence Rankin, Lorna Thompson and Myra Gough, accumulated 185 points from their four rounds and now hold an eight point lead over team 12 Denise Callan, Ann Fulton and Christine McCafferty.

Meanwhile, week five of the very popular Foyle Sunday Society was dominated by the low handicap players as the former Derry City and Finn Harps defender, Stuart Gauld (6) returned to winning ways with a fine score of 39 points.

One of the club’s Juvenile members, four handicapper Caolan Dunn, finished in the runners-up spot with 38 points, as five handicapper Kevin Thomas finished third with the best of the 37 points returns.

Foyle Golf Club’s Christmas Hamper will take place on Sunday, November 27th and all members taking part are asked to enter their names on the sheet provided in the Golf reception before Monday, November 21st when the draw for playing partners will take place.
