Over 2000 people expected to participate in first-ever Worldwide Marian Procession in Derry this Saturday

The first-ever Worldwide Marian Procession is set to take place in Derry this Saturday, with over 2,000 people expected to take part.

Launched by Youtube channel ‘Guardians of the Faith,’ the organisers called upon Christians to ‘join in unity across the world to honour the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’

The event has also received the support of Bishop of Derry, Donal McKeown, who encouraged everyone to attend.

The event schedule begins on Friday, June 12 – Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus – at 10.30am with a 24 hours Adoration.

This ends on Saturday, June 13, the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, at 10am, followed by a World Holy Mass at St. Mary’s Chapel, Creggan at 12pm.

Additionally, from 10.30am to 11.15am, the Men’s and Women’s Rosary of Ireland will come together to pray the Rosary in unity, on their knees, in Guildhall Square, Derry.

Following Holy Mass at 12pm, there will be the Marian Procession through the streets of Derry.

The procession will leave from St. Mary’s Chapel, walking down the New Road to the Bogside, towards the Brandywell.

There will be a stop there at the Grotto of Our Lady to pray the Rosary, then on to Celtic Park GAA Stadium to finish with Benediction and the Holy Rosary.

Organisers estimate that the procession will take around 30–35 minutes and will cover a distance of 1.5 miles.

The event organisers are asking all participants in the worldwide Marian procession to dress in a specific way: men and boys are to wear white shirts with blue ties, while women and girls are asked to wear blue and cover their heads with mantels.

They said this is in ‘honour of our Most Blessed Mother and marks the rise of Mary’s Blue Army around the world, united in honour of Our Lady on the Feast of the Immaculate Heart of Mary.’

Organisers confirmed that clergy and prayer groups from across Ireland and worldwide have pledged support and said there will also be media coverage from around the world.

Participants have been asked to pease arrive early, follow steward guidance, and check https://www.worldwidemarianprocession.com/ for final updates.
